I'm looking for advice
to fix this rusted door bottom. The first thing I'm planning to do is sand blast the bottom of the door.
In the hinge area I'll try making
a paper template, cutting a patch and welding it in behind the rusted metal.Actually in most places the metal isn't crumble
it just looks like someone drilled holes in it. On the bottom of the door I will try cutting out the old
metal in 3 sections, one at a time and welding in new metal starting in the middle of the door.I'm only planning on cutting
the rust out ,(about 1-1/2")not the whole width of the bottom of the door.
I cut out the bad
metal, made a cardboard template and cut repair from metal.I used a Cobra DHC 2000 to braze in the new metal. This was
my first time with this welding outfit and was time consuming to learn. The door bottom had a earlier repair with lead.
I was very hapy with the way
the door bottom turned out. After grinding off the welds I put a thin coat of body filler with fiber glass in it and top coated
it with feather rite.I than put the door back on the car to check the fit.
